Review of a Live Performance
Excursion: during the course of this semester, you will attend one or more live performances with Team G. Any of these could be the basis for this assignment. So plan ahead: be sure to get a copy of the theater program, and take a photograph of yourself on site. During the performance, take mental notes of moments you find striking, or that get a big response from the audience. As soon as you get home, sketch down your impressions, so you don’t lose them. Which performers stood out? What did you think of the costumes and set design?
Writeup: After attending one of the following live performances, write a short reflective review (approx. 750 word) as follows:
- Introduce the reader, as needed, to the piece you’re reviewing. Consider what a typical reader already knows and what that reader needs to be informed about. For example, everyone has heard of Shakespeare, but some of his less famous plays require introduction.
- Offer analysis of the performance, drawing upon rich description and key details as evidence. Assess the show as a whole: how spectacle, drama, music, humor, etc. combine to some particular effect.
- Assess the contributions of standout individuals: an actor or two, perhaps the set or costume designer.
